What is the procedure under the Factories Act, 1948 that the employer is supposed to follow when an accident occurs in the factory?

In case an accident takes place which is fatal or causes loss of part of the body, or if the worker becomes unconscious or suffers serious burn injuries or any such dangerous incident occurs, then it has to be informed to the Directorate of Industrial Safety & Health office within 4 hours by telephone or by a special messenger.  A written report in Form 24 has to be submitted within 12 hours to the DIHS office.

If the accident prevents the worker from rejoining duty for a period of 48 hours, then the information has to be given within the next 24 hours.
