What are the restrictions on the employment of children in a factory as per the Act?


The main restrictions about the employment of children in a factory as per the Act are as follows:-


  1. The employment of a child below the age of 14 is totally prohibited.
  2. A child who has completed the age of 14 but has not completed 15 years can be employed for a maximum period of 4 ½ hours per day.
  3. Such a child cannot be employed during the night hours i.e., 10.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.
  4. Such a child must have a fitness certificate issued by the certifying Surgeon.
  5. The Employer must maintain a register of child workers in the prescribed form.
