Who is eligible to claim the EDLI funds in case of death of the insured employee?

The nominee of the insured member can claim the EDLI amount.  In case there is no nominee declared, the surviving family members are eligible to claim the amount.  Family members include the spouse, male children who have not attained majority, and unmarried daughters.  Where there are no surviving members, the benefit can be claimed by the legal heir of the deceased member. In case the legal heir is a minor, the claim can be made by the legal guardian.

However, the share shall not be claimed by:

•Sons of the deceased who have attained majority

•Sons of the deceased son who have attained majority

•Married daughters whose husbands are alive

•Married daughters of a deceased son whose husband is alive.
